Capacity Development
We recognize that our continued commitment to provide sustainable and value-added project and construction management services contribute significantly to a nation’s capacity development efforts.
Capacity development is a challenging and long term commitment. Its goal is to improve individual and institutional effectiveness.
Currently, 90% of VIAP’s workforce in Iraq are local engineers who work diligently in the reconstruction of their homeland. Careful guidance and mentorship from senior VIAP program managers capacitate them in areas such as project management, construction methods, and report requirements training.
To further that end, VIAP has established the first and only American Concrete Institute (ACI) chapter in Iraq, and certified several engineers from the program (both VIAP and non-VIAP employees) in concrete inspection methods. In 2006, VIAP worked closely with key representatives, from the Iraqi government, academe, and industry in the development of the first ever Iraq Building Standards, which has been presented to the International Building Council for ratification.
